# Still > Still makes QR codes from web addresses. A fixed code stores the address in the pattern and does not expire. An editable code uses a short link you can change later, and it keeps working while this site is online. Still is a free web application. A fixed code encodes an http or https address directly into the symbol. An editable code encodes a short link on this site, stores the destination, and counts scans. There is no account and no trial expiry. A dynamic QR code stores a redirect. The redirect is why a free code can die after a few days. - [QR codes that do not expire](https://still-qr.vercel.app/guides/qr-codes-that-do-not-expire): A QR code does not have an expiry date. It stops working only if the address inside it stops working, or if it stored someone else's redirect. - [Make a QR code for a website](https://still-qr.vercel.app/guides/qr-code-for-a-website): Use the full https address, leave a quiet margin, and choose Medium damage tolerance for a normal web page. - [Print a QR code](https://still-qr.vercel.app/guides/print-a-qr-code): Print from the SVG when you can. Use black on white, keep the quiet zone, and scan a proof before the full run. ## Facts ### Do these QR codes expire? A fixed code does not expire. The web address is in the pattern, with no trial and no account. An editable code also has no trial period. It keeps working while this site is online, and you can change the destination whenever you want. ### Why do some free QR codes stop working after a few days? Those tools put their own short link in the pattern. The short link lives on their website, and they can turn it off when a trial ends. The square still scans. It just no longer has anywhere to go. ### What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code? A static code stores the destination address. A dynamic code stores a short link that redirects to the destination. The redirect can be edited, measured, or switched off. A static code cannot be edited later, and it also cannot be switched off by the tool that made it. ### Can the link be changed after the code is printed? A fixed code cannot be changed, because the address is part of the pattern. An editable code can. The pattern stores a short link on this site, and you change the address that short link opens. The printed squares stay the same. ### Which damage tolerance should be used? Medium is enough for a screen and a clean print. Quartile or High is the better choice when the code will be small, folded, or outdoors. Higher tolerance makes a denser pattern. Low is for a short address that will stay crisp. ### Which file should be downloaded? Download SVG for a print shop or any size of print, because it stays sharp when enlarged. Download PNG at 1024 pixels for most uses, or 2048 pixels for a poster. A sheet of several codes exports at up to 640 pixels per code. ### Will a colored code scan? Black modules on a white background scan most reliably. A dark ink on a light paper can work. Low contrast, a photograph behind the code, or inverted colors often fail in phone cameras. ### Is the address stored in an account? No account is created. A fixed code is drawn in the browser and the destination is not stored. An editable code stores the destination on this site so the short link can be changed, and it counts scans of that short link. ## Image route https://still-qr.vercel.app/api/qr?text=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com&format=svg Replace the text parameter with an encoded http or https address. format is svg or png.
